Film:Through A Lens Darkly:Black Photographers and the Emergence Of a People

Montgomery Fellow Thomas Allen Harris's Film Through A Lens Darkly will be shown and afterwards he will hold a Q & A. Don't miss this event.

Thursday, May 5, 2016
7:00pm – 9:00pm
Loew Auditorium, Black Family Visual Arts Center
Intended Audience(s): Public
Categories: Academic Calendar, Arts, Athletics & Recreation, Clubs & Organizations, Exhibitions, Films

With his new film, artist Thomas Allen Harris posits that black people in America have mostly been seen through the eyes of white image makers who have infused popular culture with Aunt Jemima, Darkie Toothpaste, Birth of a Nation and more. It's only through the eyes of black photographers that we see differently. Lens is a family memoir, a tribute to unsung artists and a lyrical—at times heartbroken—meditation on imagery and identity.
