All Day
TBD
Intended Audience(s): Public
Categories: 50th Anniversary Milestones, Conferences, Lectures & Seminars

This one-day symposium will invite Dartmouth alumni who graduated within the last 50 years and who have pursued careers in academia. These alumni will be invited based on how their scholarship and experience are helping to diversify the academic profession. The panelists will discuss the challenges they faced as students of color at Dartmouth, where they found support on campus, and how the Liberal Arts curriculum has contributed to their professional achievements and successes. The alums will also describe their current contributions to diversity and inclusivity at their campuses, as well as what work needs to be done to make our academic institutions welcoming spaces for students and faculty from underrepresented groups. The symposium takes aretrospective look at the history of underrepresented minorities at Dartmouth and looks toward building a diverse and inclusive future for students and faculty of color in the academic profession.

The symposium will consist of:

- Panel sessions in the morning featuring our invited guest speakers

- A working lunch where guests, Dartmouth students, faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and administrators will convene in small groups to address strategies for diversifying the academy

- An afternoon plenary in which the small working groups will share the results of their working lunch discussion
