Professor Lisa Baldez will lead a faculty discussion of the book Sexual Citizens focused on faculty teaching and student learning at Dartmouth.
Sexual assault is an urgent problem on college campuses. In Sexual Citizens, Jennifer Hirsch, Professor of Socio-medical Sciences at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, and Shamus Kahn, Professor of Sociology and American Studies at Princeton University, bring their prodigious scholarly skills to study the problem and generate new ways to address it. The book examines the social ecosystem that makes sexual assault predictable and explains how physical spaces, alcohol, peer groups, and cultural norms influence young people’s experiences of sex and sexual assault.
Professor Lisa Baldez will lead a faculty discussion of Sexual Citizens aimed at thinking through what the study means for faculty teaching and student learning on the Dartmouth campus.
Participants may pick up a copy of the book at the main office of the Program in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality (210 Baker) or email Bevan Dunbar to request that a copy be sent to them through campus mail. The discussion will be facilitated to accommodate those who have read some, all, or none of the book in advance.
